Last night I had a vision.

We were in this beautiful warehouse.
It was filled with people, dancing and smiling UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN.
There was a guy in a lobster suit and a bear wearing a fez and lots of fruit.

And the music... I've never heard music like that before.

I asked who was playing and a voice said "Mikey Miutante, Brut33, DJ Silvio, James Bucknell, Harry Sounds and James Weirick".

Someone passed me a flyer. It read:

Many thanks to all the people who came out to Paradise Lost's Forbidden Fruit on saturday night! A really wonderful party. Party went from 9pm - 9am the next day! Both rooms were rocking all night, breaking the genre barrier with everything from disco and posyck-rock to techno and chicago acid. Respect to the Basik Sound crew for their freestyle at the end and for having the crew do their thing in the first place.

It was just two months ago, on a cold and rainy night when we kicked things off at Tonic Lounge on Thursdays! Our guest that week was Mr Mikey Miutante and this week resident DJ James Bucknell and resident bon vivant Margie Borschke welcome Mr Miutante back behind the decks. Watch here for a mix too!

Mikey Miutante's Bio:
Mikey Miutante plays bass-driven, groove-heavy music from raw funk to camp-as disco and hand-clappin, arse-jackin booty house. He's a member of the Paradise Lost crew and has played at many underground parties around Sydney, including Do Your Thing with DJ Spun (Rong, PS1, NY) Hi-Jinks, Soiree, Pub Day, Wired for Sound and Tampered. He's also part of the Soul-tech Soundsystem, infamous festivals of mayhem, madness and down n dirty soul muzak.

Both James Bucknell and Mikey Miutante are also members of Paradise Lost (who have an upcoming party in the works.) Mikey also has some tomfoolery of his own planned including a free party in Sydney on Aug 26 and Set It Off, a party he's throwing with Silvio Mangles and James Weirick, also of Paradise Lost and also past guest DJs of ours, on Sept 2 at the Glengarry Hotel.

Really excited to have Hey Convict! the Melbourne DJ duo come to Sydney this week.

Tamas Jones, one half of the seafaring duo, will be joining James Bucknell down at Tonic Lounge this Thursday August 10. Also the lovely ladies of Newman Lane are back and will be staging their second art intervention.

Who are these Rogue Sailors?

Hey Convict! are Melbourne DJs Tamas Jones & Jason Evans. Having previously thrown-down records, both separately and together, alongside some of the world's most crazed disco devils (Danny Wang, Brennan Green, Robi Headman, Munk, DJ Spun) the two banded together during the long hot Australian summer of 2004 to host a series of marathon Sunday arvo rooftop parties (come to be known as 'No Hassles').

TIME TO NOODLE is a mixed CD, a profane 'noodling' of classically influenced Italian Prog, sun-drenched Classic Rock, Electric Blues, Greek Psychedelia and fuzzed out Jazz-Fusion, all overseen by the ghost of pre-Disco Soul. TIME TO NOODLE is available at Central Station in Melbourne, and will soon be selling at Jetset records in Japan, Piccadilly Records in the UK.

As a side note the guys have also been asked to contribute a mix to PS1 's online DJ Sessions, sharing the page with deejays like Rub n Tug, Harvey and TimLove Lee. Shake your shackles and get loose!

Who is this Mangle Man?
Silvio Mangles plays music from all directions including disco, funkified rock, afrobeat and house. In addition to Paradise Lost he also organises and plays at First Blood at the Hotel Hollywood and Zeros and Heros at Mars Lounge.

On July 20, 2006, we welcome birthday boy and fellow member of the Paradise Lost crew, Brut33 behind the decks at Tonic Lounge. Don't forget to give him a birthday slap on the ass!

Brut33 is a Sydney DJ who sweats soul and drinks disco juice, laying on a bed of electrofunk with a diva on each arm. He co-runs the independent record label After Thought Records and is a Radio DJ on Alchemy on SBS. He's been putting on parties in Sydney for past three years with Paradise Lost being the Mothership that is spreading the love. He's happiest seeing people getting down and going crazy.

July 13: A special set from Rob Salmon

Rob Salmon is a DJ and producer best known for his releases on Deep Dish's label Yoshitoshi and for his mixed CD 'Selections' (4th Floor/Northcott). Rob's DJ sets are renowned and he has played at clubs and events around the world including nights at Centrofly, PS1 WarmUp, Limelight and the Matterform Boat Parties in New York, Space Miami, Bar Rumba London, Big Day Out and Summadaze. A skilled producer, Rob has collaborated with Francois K's engineer Rob Rives and remixed tracks by a wide variety of artists from Human League to Barcelona DJ Micasa.

After many years in New York City, Rob left the US in 2003, first spending two years in Auckland, his hometown, and then settling in Sydney in 2005. He continues to tour and is working on new productions. He's also playing around Sydney with recent gigs at Saturdays atChinese Laundry, Yellow at Scary Canary, Deep As Fu*k at the Civic Hotel and Phoenix Bar.

Rob has a special set planned for Thursdays at Tonic Lounge on July 13, digging deep into the crates to revist to some timeless House classics, disco gems, lounge vibes and future club classics a la Body & Soul.

"Andy has been involved in and around the Sydney electronic music scene for the past 15 years, and has played at underground clubs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as well as throughout the United States and Canada.

In the late 90's and early noughties Burge lived and DJ'd in New York City working for Francois K's legendary Wave Music imprint which has left a profound effect on his musical direction.

Although his love of Chicago House is well noted, he now sees that his passion lays in the covergence of underground disco (both new and old) and early house music in all its various guises. Citing a broad and diverse range of artists such as Patrick Adams, ESG, Larry Heard, Carl Craig, War, and Talking Heads as major influences. Similarly new artists/labels such as Bear Funk, Lindstrom, Idjut Boys, Todd Terje, and Brennan Green tickles his fancy.

He co-ran the 'Jam The Box/Break Even Crew' parties that broke DJs such as Diz, Inland Knights, East Coast Boogiemen, Little Beasties, and Jason Hodges to the Sydney house public.
These days, he sees his future in small intimate venues and back rooms where the original ethos of this music can shine through."

We're really looking forward to having Richard Cranston down at Tonic this Thursday, June 29. James and Richard began corresponding about music when James was still living in New York and Richard in Sydney. They became friends almost the minute James got off the plane, mostly because they had some records to trade. In the true spirit of community-based dance music, they've turned each other on to many many records, new sounds and old. I hope you'll join us for what is sure to be a great night.

DJ Richard has been lurking around Sydney's underground dance music scene for over a decade. Known for his quick mix style and throwing old school house, disco and italo cuts into the mix - he's guaranteed to turn any party out.
